A self-taught makeup artist, James quickly worked his way to the title of Senior Artist for M.A.C U.K., which opened up the world of backstage makeup. Having the opportunity to work alongside the world’s leading designers, stylists and makeup artists helped James to hone his craft and perfect his signature style of beauty.

From the U.K., James was promoted to the Director of Makeup Artistry for M.A.C cosmetics Asia Pacific, a region with diverse and cutting-edge makeup direction. James was a key spokesperson for the brand and also gave insight into product and artistry development.

During her tenure she has held the roles of Hair and Makeup Artist, Senior Hair and Makeup Artist, and Hair and Makeup Supervisor. She has worked in the Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. bureaus with the network, taking a bit of each city with her along the way.

Her work has appeared on Ugly Betty, 30 Rock, Get Him to the Greek, Dallas, and Basketball Wives to name a few. She has had her artistry displayed in Vogue and the Source magazines. During her career she has collaborated with on-air personalities at E! Entertainment, Good Morning America, Bravo, A&E, VH1, BET and more. Her client list is vast, lending her talents to celebrities, politicians, and everyday people.

Julie Meads

Julie Meads is the Supervisor of CNN Hair and Makeup for the New York bureau, encompassing work for CNN Domestic, Espanol and International as well as HLN networks.  Her role consists of overseeing all aspects of the department, staff and freelance artist recruitment and development as well as leading teams in the field for large on location productions. Staying one step ahead in this fast-paced world of breaking news and never-ending news cycles, Julie thrives in the organized chaos. Over the last 6 years with CNN, Julie has had the opportunity to work on CNN Heroes, presidential debates, townhalls as well as political conventions across the country, enjoying a front row seat at several history making events!

While attending Parsons School of Design in NY, Julie developed a love for makeup artistry.  In the early 90’s this passion led her to work with a relatively unknown brand at the time, MAC cosmetics.  This started her career in cosmetics retail management, fusing her passion for artistry with her love of business.  She has worked in many roles such as educator, account executive, retail manager throughout her retail cosmetics career with top brands such as MAC, Bobbi Brown and NARS.  Julie has always understood that developing relationships, stepping up to new challenges and operating with integrity and candor are her keys to success.  This has allowed her to transition between her retail cosmetics roles and the network news business, seamlessly.  She has been afforded many opportunities throughout her career, leading her to CNN where countless more await!

Emily has 10+ years of experience working in beauty and tech.  At Benefit Cosmetics, she is the marketing lead for Benefit Brow Try-On, Benefit’s first ever augmented reality experience, which pioneered new AR brow hair detection and was the first experience to market for 3D LIVE in a mobile web browser.  Outside of marketing Brow Try-On, Emily lead the 2019 effort to establish Benefit Cosmetics global digital KPIs across paid, owned & earned channels.  Prior to joining Benefit Cosmetics, Emily worked at the retail start-up U*Tique Shop, the world’s first automated luxury concept store.
